Grow Digital Skills is for you 

  • No matter what your situation this course will help you find ways to use digital tools in away that works for you, and your business. 
  • You might own a smartphone and want to learn more about how to use it to help your business or maybe you already know a bit and are interested to see what else might be worth using.
  • Maybe you don't really like technology, but you know that it’s only a matter of time before you need to get online, and you just need a place to start. 
  • Maybe you are happy to learn a bit more but just haven’t had the time to get around to doing it.
  • You might even be comfortable with digital technology, and just want to learn what else is out there!

We take you through step by step to work out: 

  • Where digital can help you in your business right now – what apps are out there to save you time and money 
  • What equipment and tools are suitable for your business – focusing on making sure you have the right tools for the job where and how you work 
  • How to be cyber security aware and to protect your data 
  • How social media can benefit your business – some tips and tricks to be aware of to make sure it is done right 
  • Finally we are going to show you how to get ongoing help and access to resources to help your own digital transformation.

There are a total of five modules and each module is organised in the same way. 

  • We provide you with information about the topic and teach you how you might apply the learnings to your business 
  • We have several activities to help you do this, including a downloadable workbook that means you can refer to the information you learn in this course even when you are not online. 
  • The workbook includes the worksheets and checklists so that you can keep track of where you are up to and make sure that you don’t miss anything along the way!  
  • Because nothing beats learning from other seafood businesses that have done it.  You will hear from a Queensland fisher, Jeff Newman, who will share his views on digital for the fishing and seafood businesses.

Module 1:
How can going digital benefit your fishing business right now?

At the end of this module you will have:

âś” A good idea of how going digital could benefit you and your business
âś” Identified at least three ways you can use digital in your business within the next month
âś” Prepared a list of how you can use digital in your business in the future

Module 2:
How you can stay safe in cyberspace. 

At the end of this module you will have:

âś” A good understanding of what staying safe means (known as cyber-security) and why it’s important in your business.

Implemented some basic security systems in your business.

Change your password to the Digital Fisher Portal

Module 3:
How to use apps to become more efficient in your fishing business.

At the end of this module you will have:

âś” Be familiar with apps that you could use in your business
âś” Know how to download and use an app in your business
âś” Be able to set up a Zoom meeting and use this app in your business

Module 4:
How can social media benefit your fishing business?

At the end of this module you will have:

âś” Understand some of the more established social media channels in Australia.
âś” Know some of the benefits of using social media
âś” Get to know how social media can be used in your fishing business

Jayne Gallagher
Chief Executive Officer, Founder

 

Jayne is the CEO and market development strategist for Honey & Fox. For the last 30 years she has been in and around the Australian seafood industry mainly focusing on market and trade development services – working with Ted Loveday at Seafood Services Australia and then with the Australian Seafood Cooperative Research Centre where she worked with fishers and fishing businesses to identify and open new markets. In addition to running her own business working with individual fishers to identify and grow profitable markets for their products, she is also the General Manager of the Seafood Trade Advisory Group (STAG) and a member of the Seafood Export Consultative Committee.

Dr Joanne Freeman
Research, Training and Engagement Director 

 

Dr Joanne Freeman is in her element looking for patterns and insights from data to help our clients find the best markets for their products. She has a particular passion for helping small businesses turn market insights into real practical actions.  She likes nothing better than getting on boats and talking with our fishers giving her significant insight into commercial fishing industry. Joanne has extensive experience in digital training, marketing, project management, industry engagement and not to forget market research. She has held senior roles in government and industry associations along with spending several years as an academic (we call her our pracademic!!).

Helen is a company founder and leads our Creative Services and Communications team. Qualified in user experience and design she loves helping our clients connect with their markets by bringing their authentic provenance stories to life in creative and compelling ways, that are accessible and easy for customers. Helen’s experience includes working with Agri and food businesses on effective digital communications, brands and promotions in international and domestic markets, developing markets through creative communications. She brings her passions for nature, art and food into her work.
